Our team of attorneys are now investigating claims and prepared to file Mirena lawsuitsinvolving the intrauterine contraceptive device Mirena®. Manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Mirena is an IUD device [intrauterine device] that must be inserted by a trained health care provider and is intended to provide contraceptive protection for up to five years. Some women have experienced serious adverse side-effects and potentially life-threatening complications following the implantation of theMirena device, including perforation of or imbedment in the uterus.
Mirena May Cause Depression
Some other studies have also shown a link between hysterectomies and depression. Researchers have found that women are more likely to have psychological problems after a hysterectomy (whether or not the ovaries are removed) than after other kinds of surgery. They are also more likely to have problems than if they had had no surgery at all. Depression does not always show up immediately after a hysterectomy. Often a woman will not report feeling depressed until the end of the first year or during the second year after her operation.
Deep Vein Thrombosis
Thrombophlebitis or venous thrombosis indicates the presence of thrombus within a superficial or deep vein and the accompanying inflammatory response in the vessel wall. Thrombosis of a deep vein of the legs or Deep Vein Thrombosis is a common complication associated with hysterectomy. Usually, Deep Vein Thrombosis begins in the veins of the calf, but it may also arise directly from the femoral or iliac veins.
Symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis
Typical symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis are pain, warmth, redness, and swelling in the calf or leg. Usual findings are edema, distention of collateral veins, and the presence of a palpable cord. Cyanosis may be present if venous obstruction is severe. Cough or sneezing may provoke pain along the course of a vein (“Louvel’s sign”). Pain or discomfort may be provoked by dorsiflexion of the ankle (“Homans’ sign”). Inflation of a sphygmomanometer cuff may induce pain in the affected calf at a pressure lower than the unaffected one (“Lowenberg’s sign”). The dorsal veins of the feet may remain distended even after elevation of the legs.
Second Opinion
Be alert to pressure from your physician to have surgery for the bleeding. Before agreeing to a hysterectomy, you should always get a second or even a third opinion.
