Our team of attorneys are now investigating claims and prepared to file Mirena lawsuitsinvolving the intrauterine contraceptive device Mirena®. Manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Mirena is an IUD device [intrauterine device] that must be inserted by a trained health care provider and is intended to provide contraceptive protection for up to five years. Some women have experienced serious adverse side-effects and potentially life-threatening complications following the implantation of theMirena device, including perforation of or imbedment in the uterus.
Women Sue Bayer for Spontaneous Mirena IUD Migration, Perforation
A New York woman filed a Mirena lawsuit against Bayer last month, claiming that she suffered from uterine perforation and other complications, which forced her to undergo IUD removal surgery within two years. Mirena IUD contraceptive has been promoted by manufacturer Bayer as a safe and durable alternative to birth control pills ever since its approval in 2000. However, the recent spate of Mirena lawsuits highlighting spontaneous migration and perforations caused by the intrauterine device created serious questions on the benefits and safety concerns associated with the contraceptive.
Two Mirena lawsuits filed in New York federal courts in February have alleged that the IUD perforated plaintiffs’ uterus and caused serious pelvic infections. The first lawsuit filed by Kristie B. Donovan in the Western District court claims that the spontaneous device migration perforated her uterus and failed to prevent her pregnancy. Donovan experienced acute pain abdomen and pelvic complications following Mirena IUD migration. She underwent multiple surgeries to remove the IUD that left her with permanent injuries.
Similarly, another Mirena lawsuit filed a fortnight later by Julie Cantor Miller at a South District court unraveled how she was forced to undergo laparoscopic surgery within two years of using Mirena IUD to remove the displaced contraceptive device. Both Mirena lawsuits are seeking compensatory and punitive damages, alleging that manufacturer Bayer sold defective contraceptives and failed to warn about the risk of migration and perforation.
More than two dozen similar Mirena side effect injury lawsuits are pending in New Jersey’s Morris County superior Court. A Californian woman has filed a Mirena lawsuit in a state court, claiming that she now faces the prospects of no-viable pregnancy following uterus perforation caused by the Mirena IUD.
Another woman from Virginia has filed a litigation seeking $2 million in compensation after she was diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy while using the contraceptive. Two women from Ohio and Oklahoma have filed product liability lawsuits against Bayer on the ground that they had to undergo hysterectomy because of uterine injuries caused by displaced Mirena IUD.
