Our team of attorneys are now investigating claims and prepared to file Mirena lawsuitsinvolving the intrauterine contraceptive device Mirena®. Manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Mirena is an IUD device [intrauterine device] that must be inserted by a trained health care provider and is intended to provide contraceptive protection for up to five years. Some women have experienced serious adverse side-effects and potentially life-threatening complications following the implantation of theMirena device, including perforation of or imbedment in the uterus.
Mirena May Cause Unnecessary Surgery
Mirena is alleged to have many side effects. Mirena is an interuterine contraceptive device {IUD}. Our team includes Mirena attorneys that want to provide information to women or their loved ones about making a Mirena claim or to discuss a Mirena lawsuit.
One injury that may result from Mirena is a hysterectomy. More information on this potential complication, which is unnecessary in our opinion, is as follows:
Each year a substantial number of Americans die from unnecessary surgery. The physician who practices surgery without the necessary skill, or the surgeon who performs unnecessary surgery, can rightly expect his relationship to his patients to be destroyed, should the patient ever learn of the improper nature of the doctor’s activity, as many patients do. The doctor can also expect to suffer loss of reputation in the community and economic threat to his own welfare through retaliatory malpractice suits. There is no question that unnecessary surgery is performed by some physicians. The physician who performs unnecessary surgery is undermining the very foundations of a decent, honest, patient-oriented relationship. Many hysterectomies are considered as unnecessary surgeries. Providers collect cash for unnecessary surgery, while the surgery has serious psychological and medical aftereffects on the victim.
Taking a decision
Because the uterus is such a strong symbol of womanhood, many women approach the idea of having hysterectomy with great anxiety. The operation may be advised because of a serious tumor in the uterus or associated tissues or it may be suggested as a treatment for symptoms that may not be due to serious disease such as heavy periods. In these cases, only the woman concerned knows how incapacitated she is by her symptoms and so she must decide whether or not she wants a hysterectomy. The operation is becoming less common because many of the conditions for which is used to be performed are being treated in other ways. Hysterectomy if possible such be avoided in women who still want to have children.
Deep venous thrombosis
One of the risks of open and vaginal hysterectomy is deep venous thrombosis. In deep venous thrombosis, blood clots form in the veins of the legs. Pieces of clot can break off and travel through the blood stream to the lungs or heart, causing very serious blockages (pulmonary embolism). If your legs are kept very still, as they are during any major surgery, the slowing of the blood flow predisposes to the formation of clots in the leg veins.
