Wellbutrin Tricuspid or Pulmonary Atresia Lawyer

      Wellbutrin heart defect lawsuit

NO COST, NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION – CALL TOLL FREE 1-800-632-1404 or 901-527-2125

If your child has been diagnosed with tricuspid atresia or pulmonary atresia, and you or a loved one took Wellbutrin during pregnancy, we can help. Your time may be running out – call us today.

Tricuspid atresia is a form of congenital heart disease whereby there is a complete absence of the tricuspid valve. Therefore, there is an absence of right atrioventricular connection. Because of this, the body does not have enough oxygen to live, and steps must be taken to keep the child alive. Because of the lack of an A-V connection, an atrial septal defect (ASD) must be present to maintain blood flow. Also, since there is a lack of a right ventricle there must be a way to pump blood into the pulmonary arteries, and this is accomplished by a ventricular septal defect (VSD).

Pulmonary atresia is a congenital malformation of the pulmonary valve in which the valve orifice fails to develop. The valve is completely closed thereby obstructing the outflow of blood from the heart to the lungs. With the disease pulmonary atresia, the flap-like openings are completely covered by a layer of tissue, thus preventing the ability of blood flow to the lungs to become oxygenated. The body requires oxygenated blood for survival. Pulmonary atresia is not threatening to a developing fetus however, because the mother’s placenta provides the needed oxygen since the baby’s lungs are not yet functional. Once the baby is born its lungs must now provide the oxygen needed for survival, but with Pulmonary atresia there is no opening on the pulmonary valve for blood to get to the lungs and become oxygenated and the only source of pulmonary blood flow is a patent ductus arteriosus. Due to this, the newborn baby is blue in color and pulmonary atresia can usually be diagnosed within hours or minutes after birth.

Wellbutrin Heart Defect Lawyer: Help for Children with Coarctation of the Aorta

NO COST, NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION – CALL TOLL FREE: 1-800-632-1404

Our law firm is providing no cost, no obligation case evaluations to persons in all fifty states where a mother took Zybam or Wellbutrin in early pregnancy and their child was diagnosed with a birth defect, including a heart defect.  Wellbutrin is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline.  As a Wellbutrin attorney, we would be honored to discuss a Wellbutrin lawsuit with you today.  A medical journal has written there may be a link between ingestion of Wellbutrin in early pregnancy and the development of heart defects in infants.

Coarctation of the aorta, or aortic coarctation, is a congenital condition whereby the aorta narrows in the area where the ductus arteriosus (ligamentum arteriosum after regression) inserts. There are three types: (1) Preductal coarctation (narrowing is proximal to the ductus arteriosus); (2) Ductal coarctation (narrowing occurs at the insertion of the ductus arteriosus)l and (3) Postductal coarctation (narrowing is distal to the insertion of the ductus arteriosus).

Therapy is usually conservative for this condition, although surgery may be necessary. The condition is severe, and medical appointments and procedures are necessary.

Attorney Ed Wallis is currently reviewing potential Wellbutrin / Buproprion lawsuits involving women who took Wellbutrin during early pregnancy and suffered adverse side effects. Wellbutrin (Buproprion), an antidepressant prescription drug generically called Bupropion hydrochloride, has been linked in a recent study to serious side effects in women who take this drug during early pregnancy. This study, published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, suggests that women who take Wellbutrin during early pregnancy may run a greater risk for having a child born with a heart birth defect. This includes left outflow heart defects.

Wellbutrin (bupropion HCI), which is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, was first approved by FDA as an antidepressant in December 1985. The drug was shortly thereafter taken off the market after there were a large number of seizures associated with the medication.

The latest study, after looking at 12,700 children born in the U.S. between 1997 and 2004, found that mothers who used Wellbutrin/bupropion during their first trimester were more than twice as likely to give birth to an infant with a congenital heart problem known as a left outflow tract defect.

The heart birth defect can restrict the flow of blood to the rest of the body from the heart’s left chambers, and often must be surgically corrected to allow the child’s main artery to function properly. Medical bills and pain and suffering are likely. We are standing by ready to help you.

Bupropion is marketed as Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin XL, and Wellbutrin XR.

Congenital heart defects affect approximately 40,000 babies each year, and one of the primary known causes of these birth defects is ingestion of teratogenic drugs during pregnancy. A teratogen is a drug or other substance capable of interfering with the development of a fetus that can ultimately result in serious birth defects.

Manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, Bupropion hydrochloride is used to treat Major Depressive Disorder and Seasonal Affective Disorder. First approved by the FDA in 1985, Bupropion hydrochloride was available for several years only under the brand name Wellbutrin. In 1996, the FDA aproved a sustained-release tablet of this drug called Wellbutrin SR and, in 2003, approved an extended-release tablet known as Wellbutrin XL.

Bupropion is marketed as Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin XL, and Wellbutrin XR
